2010 Kicks off with "Full Throttle Friday"

What better way to start off the new year with a Sydney Dragway "Full Throttle Friday". Numbers were a bit down on usual, but this only gave the racers more runs, and gave me more chances to get the shots i was after.

As these meets are an afternoon/night affair i planned on gettin my strobe on again and setting up the off cam lighting. But this time i planned to cover both lanes instead of being stuck on one side. But how would i do this with only 3 flash guns??

The setup was pretty much the same as prev, but this time i would set up front flash's on stands for each lane, and use my 3rd flash as a mobil unit by sitting it on the wall to light up the side of the cars. Doing it this way meant I would have to take the 3rd flash head with me when changing sides, yes this was a bit of a pain but it was my only option at the time.

To set the heads up to only fire the side i was on, i would just set the Pocket Wizards up on 2 seperate channels and just switch the transiever on cam, and the reciever for the side flash unit, nice n easy...

Ok, thats the photgraphy side of things out of the way, time for some photos. My apologies, i was a bit slack with noting down times for a lot of the runs, well most of them actually. Might make for a bit of a boring post in terms of details, but i will try to make up for it it quality pics...

Rodney Spannerburg was out in the 7SINS RX7, no doubt putting in some testing for the up-comming Compac Attak in March.
.

Another tuff Gen1 RX7, GEO13B driven by Joe Pasqua made return back to the strip after a short break. Joe had an issue with a shifter linkage that put an end to his night but will hopefully have it all sorted for CA and be looking to dip into the 8's.

Chris Fakinos brought out his awesome little R100. SIK100 is an amazing looking drag car, super low, eye popping paint and a true rotor sound comming from the guard exiting dump pipe. What more could you want??
.

The little R1 rockets down the track very steady and was pushing mid 8's with more to come.

This tuff looking MAZBITS 323 owned by Brad Wood was packing some powerfull rotor punch judging by its trap speeds, it has run into the 9's previously, although it was having some issues getting onto the stall this night.

This Proton Satria is running a grumpy sounding 4G63 with a 4WD conversion. The little hatch shot to a new PB of 10.28@127 backing off at half track. The car has run traps into the high 130's in the past.

Antonio De Oleviera was running the TTS13B 1000 ute again. not many cars can say they do as many runs as this thing, attending the majority off street meets, FTF's and major Sport Compact events throughout the year. the little ute always puts on a good show off the line.

Testing out a new mini HD camera, the ContourHD, a mate of mine managed to get some up close and personal footage of the ute.

Joe Meake had a bad end to the night in his twin turbo RB30 VL KILARB . The car ran through the traps at 8.2@ 170mph only to have the shoot fail to deploy and from what could be seen at the time appeared to lock up and spin into the wall causing some dammage to the front and rear quarters.

Fingers crossed Joe and the Pac Perf crew will hopefully have it back on the track for CA.

The ex "ROMPER" RX3 sedan, now JET08Z owned by Michael Bek liked to show off its under carriage, heading down the strip nose up on every pass. The 20B obviously making some big power. Stunning car.

The Queenstreet RB30 powered Gemini made a late entrance and made a few passes skating along the black top as usual to low 8's, a reported 50psi was stuffed into the RB for its last run but issues during the run sore it aborted.

Another tuff rotor racing on the night was Mark Avery's auto backed RX2 sedan, complete with red walled slicks and front runners.

Rod Penrose, maid a looong overdue visit to the strip. Although the bug is not running the huge turbo mill of past, it still manages to pul the front wheels up past the 60' in the first 3 gears.

And last but not least, another highlight of the night was that i finally nailed some decent shots of a top fueller and a flame throwin funny car. The funny car image is the opener for this post (see above) and below is the top fueller i managed to snap. Still room for improvements in my books but not bad.

The full gallery of images from the night are up on my site http://www.jngimages.com/ if you wanna check them out.

Till next time...

Jason
