FWD : A Ford.Com Competition

Recently i was contacted by Isaac Sloan and asked if i could help out with taking some photo's of his Ford Fiesta. Isaac had been lucky enough to be one of 30 people that were a part of the "FWD : A Ford" competition http://www.facebook.com/fwdaford# .

This group few were chosen to take home a new Ford Fiesta for a few weeks & enjoy it as much as possible. But thats not all... The competition is that who ever can promote the car best will get to take delivery of thier very own brand new Ford Fiesta Zetec, or a TDI Ford Focus, but this time, its thiers to keep!

Being pretty much the bussiest time of the year, and having a very small window of opportunity on my part to actually meet up with Isaac we were a bit limited on what we could put together but i decided on getting the little Fiesta rigged up for some nice motion shots. This should give him a point of difference over the usual snap shots that people would be taking.

Location was a private rd that has been used in a few local TV commercials, most recent i had seen was a Toyota Camry Commercial a while back. Nice long straights and sweeping corners with little to no traffic, and big concrete walls lining the road would give a good base for some rig shots. It wasnt really what i was looking for in regards to this shoot/car, but with time not on our side to find another spot, i went with something i knew would work.

We set the car up for basic front and rear rig shot's, using Avenger pads, Manfrotto magic arm and my home made boom. Here you can see the setup used for the front on shot,

Once the rig was set up and camera was in place, i took a few static shots of the car to ensure i had some sharp images to work with incase movement of the boom during the motion exposures caused any issues. Now that that was done i could move onto the motion shots. Using a shutter speed of just over 1sec and the car rolling along, i am able to capture the motion of the road and backgroud while still having the car in focus. This method can give a great sense of speed to an image, and the angles that you can get are much more extreme and interesting that normal rolling, or panning shots.
.
Below are the 2 main images i took for Isaac. You can see that the car looks to be goin along at a great speed, and the dramatic angle really makes the image stand out.

Isaac was very happy with the final images, and i hope that they will help him in the competition and give him the chance to own his very own Fiesta or Focus in the comming weeks.
Make sure if you are on FaceBook( i mean, who isnt nowdays..?) be sure to join up to the FWD:A Ford group http://www.facebook.com/fwdaford# and give a shout out for Isaac Sloan!
