WSID Test n Tune wrap up

Saturday 14/6 saw another Test n Tune come and go with some very tuff and well prepared cars improve their PB's, test out new componants and tuning and generally give the cars a good workout in preperation for upcomming bracket meets and of course the eagerly anticipated Fast Fours jamboree in late August.

As you can see for the above photo, the weather was not looking good from the word go, but the rain held off for most of the day allowing the ambient temps to stay down but also keeping the track temps down as well which is not good for cars that struggle to get traction at the best of times, and usually call for some very skatey runs down the strip.

Early on we saw an unfortunate misshap with a very quick Mazda 1200 coupe end up on its side after a very hard launch, luckily the driver was ok & the car is repairable.

(See the Video link below for the 1200's run and more highlights of the day.)

A few of the cars out on the day testing out new componants tuning were Steve's Satin Black RX3 Sedan with an off tap 12A pushing methanol through a E&J Throttle Body setup and compressed by a large single turbo. Steve is always keen to show just what can be achieved with the little 12A engine when tuned and setup just right, and with the help of Dale from Castle Hill Exhaust playing with the ECU it was proven with a very quick and straight best of 9.0@144mph for the day, oh so close to that 8 sec ET. The car is sure to improve greatly once the boost is turned up!

Another car that came very close to that 8 sec time slip was Joe in his neat S2 RX7. this car is still street registered and is not lightweight either with full glass, power window's n all. The RX7 managed a best of 9.0@154mph from his 13B engine, also running a E&J 4 barrel throttle body and large Borg Warner single turbo. Keep an eye out for a full shoot soon.

The Rigolli V6TT1200 ute ran a new PB and broke into the 7's with a best of 7.95@171.23. Great ET and huge MPH for a car only running low boost and still sorting out the new setup. Who would have thought the engine you drive around with in your VS Commodore daily could be running times like this with 2 reletivly small turbo's.... keep an eye out for this one, once Vince has got it all sorted it's destined to go a lot quicker...

The day unfortunatly ended early due to rain, but for most it was a good day and another step towards that quicker ET.

Below are a few more images from the day and a video compilation thanks to Frank at "Race Use Only". I will update and throw some more up as i go, or you can check out my FlickR stream. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jngimages/

Jamie Ruggier warming up the tyres before another 9.3 ET in the RX3

Steve McGirr testing out the new clutchless gearox.

Test n Tunes are very serious for some, all those small adjustments are what keeps the cars improving, here we see adjustments being made to the wheelie cars to adjust thier height, thus trying to stop the car from heading for the sky and keep it straight out of the hole. The white chalk on the bar wheels is also their for a reason.

Rodney Rehayem showing off his new paint scheme and getting ready for a flat out 7.30@185mph.

20B PP Goodness

Tony De'Olivera enjoying having the 5 speed back in the car.

Very tuff Torrie with a hard hole shot

It doesnt get much better than a S6 RX7 drag car...
