How can people be so stupid??

In my normal day to day life i am a retail manager in an automotive spares store, and like all retail stores over the past few years i have had many a customer come back with complaints about products that are apparently faulty, or they had been given the incorrect parts etc...

This afternoon i had an interesting one, something that has happened a few times before and always gives me a laugh. Here's what happened -

A customer arrived in the store stating that he had purchased some engine oil for his car, it since putting it in the car, it was blowing smoke very badly from the exhaust.After a few simple questions i determined that it was the wrong oil for the car (our cheapest, nastiest oil for older cars) and that he had just poured the whole 4L into the engine without even checking the dip stick at all..... "My mate just told me to top it up" he said..... When i checked it there was oil almost the whole way up! The funny thing about this guy was when i was asking him questions initially he was quick to make comment's like " I know what im doin mate, ive been around cars for years..." Obviously just driving a car makes you a mechanic hey?

I guess it makes for some entertaining instances at work, and the customers are quick to try and come up with excuses and leave the store very swiftly.

Anyway, i will leave you with two of the best situations i have come accross so far,

1.Customer returns to the store furious, stating we had told her that 5L of oil would be enough for her car, she states that she had been back and purchased anoth 2 bottles from us and it still wasnt full..... Turns out she was expecting the oil to fill up to the brim of the valve cover......

2. Customer purchases some oil from us, we recommend a oil flush to him, he replies he doesnt need it, stating his mate showed him how to clean it out properly. Customer calls up the store a little while later saying his car wont start now, turns out he drained his oil, then wanting to "Flush" the system, grabs the garden hose aanndd, well you can figure out the rest..... Turns out his mate showed him how to flush his cooling system a few weeks before....

Common sense, not some common as you think...
