Sport Compact Drag Racing at its finest

August 29-30 saw the 19th running of the Fast Fours Jamboree at Qld's Willowbank Raceway. This event is by far the biggest and most anticipated meeting in the Aus Sport Compact scene. With participants and spectators coming from all over Aus and even oversea's to see some of the biggest names in the scene battle out for top spot! PAC Performance, GAS Motorsport, the Rayglass crew from NZ and even a visiting Titan crew from the USAall keen to push thier cars to the limit for our viewing pleasure. What more could you ask for??

The US SC teams are considered to be at the pinicle of development and research when it comes to making these cars fly down the strip, so whenever we see a team make the effort to trek all the way down under its always going to be a big deal, and with the help of the GAS Motorsports team, the crew and main car from the US Titan team did just that. Where not just talking about some random crew here, these guys are it, the fastest in the business period!

The Titan Motorsport Scion, pictured below was brought over as a rolling shell, with an engine & Box package being supplied by the GAS team

This was not the only car that was fresh onto Ozzy soil, also from the Titan group was a Celica chassis purchased by none other than Rotary legend, Craig Dyson. The switch to a 2JZ powered car came as a shock to the rotary scene, but was embraced none the less. Under the GAS Motorsports banner the car ran faultlessly all weekend and Craig looks to be adapting well behind the wheel.

The event was also a major debut for another Pro car from Mazfix in Qld, the Ex US chassis Hilux was brought over some time ago and given a mechanical freshen up and a new 20B heart.

The eagerly anticipated racing debut went well with the car running a best PB of 7.40@190mph with the team still sorting out the clutch and 2 step. Surely we will see this car progress in the months to come.

Rod Harvey in the Rayglass Celica loves to remind everyone that he comes from the land of the long white cloud, with every pass being preceeded by a huge tyre frying burnout. Not only is this car capable of filling the air with tyre smoke, it also manages to get down the strip for mid 6 sec passes and clock a jaw dropping 120+mph trap speed to boot!!

The up-coming team at SDR Motorsport was once again well represented at the event with 3 very tuff rotor's running hard in a few classes. These guys are quick becomming a team to look out for.

The event also saw a new car take out Aus #1 fastest radial tyred SC car. This little bamboo KE20 Corolla owned by Scott Hoffman has a crazy 2JZ transplant, monster turbo and 2sp powerglide auto. This car struggles to get off the line and smokes the tyres for the majority of the track to pull mid 8's at over 160mph. Did i mention it's also still street rego'd...:)

Frank Canistra aka "MrHeli" was out in the RX3 and the new clutchless gearbox. Always keen to put on a good show, big burnouts and skatey passes is where its at for the small tyred cars.

The Sadek brothers were out showing no mercy to the tyres, Fred showing off the new black spray job and launching hard on every pass.

and older brother Sam "The Godfather" popping flames & half track burnouts with ease!

Ivan Skaramucha, owner/driver of this imacualte RX3 sedan became officially the worlds quickest RX3 with a 7.08@193 pass.

Whats more amazing is that the car is still only a 3/4 chassis, and has the aero dynamic's of a brick. Just goes to show what a well set up chassis and a lot of power can do. Will this car break into the 6sec zone at the FUCHS Nationals....? Not this time, but managing to improve yet again on their PB with a scorching 7.04@192mph. 6's ahead... why not i say!

Wheel stands past the tree, no probs...

APC had thier Evo comming out of the hole like a slingshot! Always a highlight of any event for me.

Pro Turbo class sponsor, Mckern & Associates Damian Mckern lights the bags hard. What does your accountant do on the weekend's??

No event would be complete without a few runs from MRMAD and his twin turbo'd V8 Torana. Even if your like me & not a big fan of V8's this thing will blow your mind! Just don't get too close to the front of the car or you may get sucked in by the massive turbo's...

As always, bothers Jamie & Daniel Ruggier were out in thier marble RX3 coupe, going as far as the finals but unfortunatly missing out on top spot in Modified Compact. Another solid effort for the Sydney boys.
Next up is the FUCHS Aus Nationals at WSID Sydney Sept 11,12 & 13 . I covered the event for Sport Compact Drag Mag so you will have to buy the Nov issue for the pics and full wrap up.
Untill next time
See you at the track,
Jason
